57.1 is brilliant!

I started running in my 40s for distance and later triathlons, but I used to do track workouts on occasion. Even then, 400s were usually the shortest of my reps. But every once in a while I'd try to get around the track as fast as I could, and 72 seconds was the best I ever managed.

Lovely piece, and a great evocation of what racing the 400 is like.
