A painful possibility to consider, Cindy. I tend to agree that virtue is something active, not a general passive disposition, an "absence of malice." I think most of the pushback you're getting comes from the assumption that vice is active and virtue is passive. If we're not actively engaged in vicious behavior, then we're "good." That's worth questioning--and you certainly question it!
