Another great piece, Ini-Iso. You get at the "mystery" of Rune very well here (and I put "mystery" in quotations because it's not one that I care to try to solve). One can imagine various kinds of story arcs about a player not reaching the heights of achievement or potential: they lack the level of skill that need, or they have every skill but are ambivalent about the totalizing nature of the discipline required, or an injury sidelines them, etc. Rune seems in a category by himself, with traces of other arcs but combined in a unique way.

I think I'd written him off as lacking the mental strength required for real excellence, but I think that's too tidy an explanation, and this piece has finally made me see that.

I still don't like Rune as a player, but I'll view him with a little more compassion now.
