Brilliant, Yael! And you touch on something that I hadn't quite realized: I'm uncomfortable with labels. Some of mine seem shifty, as even my Medium bio reveals: "erstwhile triathlete" (so am I or not?), "wannabe woodworker" (will I get there?), etc. (As you can imagine, writing a dating profile was quite hard.) Other aspects I have long taken for granted (cis, white, hetero), and I'm learning to "share the space" rather than dominate it, so those identities feel like they're shifting, too, at least in terms of power if not in their inherence in me. My discomfort with identity labels translates into a more general discomfort in environments that are label-centric, e.g. universities. I'd never quite thought about it like this. As always, thanks for provoking thought!
