But "reed" to "red" isn't the typo, it's yam suph to eruthrá thálassē (ἐρυθρά θάλασσα) as you explain. How did THAT happen? (I know Greek but not Hebrew.) In Herodotus, the Ἑρυθρή θάλασσα is the Indian Ocean (cf. 1.180, 2.11, 158, 4.42, et al.). Seems there' was some serious confusion going on!
