Excellent point, Nancy. "Retired" still defines us by our occupations even after we've left there. "Free/liberated" has a nice ring to it, but that's also a comment about one's occupation, or it is for me. "Personally engaged"? ""Evolved past employment"? "Finally independently fulfilled"?
