Full confession, Conni: I don't understand how that cashier's check scheme works. It's a little terrifying to hear that there's some legal standing behind it to force compliance!

But that one felt fishy from the beginning. This one felt about as ominous as bumping into someone in a crowded space: you check with them and move on. It's easy enough to say, Well, I'll just have to harden my heart now and regard all strangers with suspicion. But most strangers are still just friends in the making! I hate that a few bad actors require a level of suspicion and distance that I wouldn't naturally apply.
