Grading papers right now (well, taking a break from grading, to be precise). I saw more struggle last fall than this spring, but I still had more students than I used to who fit the descriptions you provide, Matthew. I loosened attendance policies but I did not annul them: I made them vague. I wanted attendance to matter still, though not in a prescriptive way. That seemed to work for me. I hope for a return to some kind of pre-pandemic normalcy, but I suspect that's like hoping to grow younger. We'll see.
