Grandparents can stick in our memories at the age at which we lose them, I think, M.J. I understand not going to see your grandmother in her final stricken days. I made a similar choice with a professor who meant most to me. I had heard the degree of his decline and I couldn't. I still feel guilty and I'm still not sure I'd do it differently.

My mother's mother was born the same year as yours, and we celebrated her 102nd birthday three weeks ago.
