He's not right, in all likelihood. What you describe is more about a space than a house, one that you chose, one that you are creating and belong to. It's a sea change. You can write a dozen essays with this new way of being, because you have a new language for the joys of belonging and for the pains of marginalized people in the world, and for the tragedies of the homeless, the immigrant, those with body dysphoria, anyone who doesn't have or can't find a space for themselves. This is really rich and lovely.
