I do love a British accent.
I'll push back gently on the notion that we believe that ours is the "accent-less" version of our language. I have a Southern accent--born in South Carolina, lived most of my life in North Carolina--and apart from my coddled childhood, I was well aware that I had the accent. I could hear more exaggerated versions than my own, and TV usually assigned Southern accents uncharitably, to say the least. I don't hate or disown my accent, but I hear it.
The next time you're visiting us Yanks, perhaps we can have a viva voce conversation and compare accents. I'll look forward to it.
