I don't disagree entirely, 650Ryder, but I'd offer some gentle pushback to the idea that the real tragedy is staying in a bad relationship. I'd agree more that there's a tragedy in staying in a bad relationship without any effort to change it. But there are pretty high costs to divorce, especially when children are involved, financially, emotionally, socially--or there can be, and are for many people.

But my original comment wasn't about demographics or statistics, just about myself. I don't feel "incomplete" or "worthless" without someone to share my life with, but sharing my life has made it incomparably richer. And I'd much prefer sharing it forever, and deepening that commitment as we go, to cycling through several relationships.
