I just taught Bulgakov The Master and Margarita in a class on satire, but as a classics professor, I was out of my depths about the specifics of Bulgakov's life and Soviet Russia in the 1920s and 30s. It was a delightful surprise to read about Bulgakov here and see the work quoted.
