I think much was made in the news of Kanye and Kyrie because they have such social media reach. I get it, the news focus, on the one hand, exacerbates the problem, but on the other, it applies a little bit of a corrective in bringing negative attention to the dissemination of harmful speech or perspectives.
I'm sure that Cornel West, Nikole Hannah-Jones, and Angela Davis have pretty substantial followings, but nothing like Ye and Kyrie. And I suspect that no one is looking to Ye and Kyrie for research, per se. But their opinions are influential. (Whether Kyrie's view were anti-Semitic in the sense that they were motivated by hatred of Jews is another question, but they certainly echoed views grounded in anti-Semitism.)
