I will have to be more circumspect from now on, Christine, but in a way, I regret it. I generally walk through this world with a couple of operating assumptions, 1) that people make mistakes and 2) they are not out to scam me. I really don't want to view a wrong number--which is easy enough to do--as a threat. But it's clear that that's now what they probably are.

I post my cell phone number on every syllabus I give to students, and it's readily available elsewhere, I'm sure. The world has had my name and phone number for years. Only recently has that become a source of peril!
