Interesting read on the role of Larentia/Laurentia, Tedde. I don't know much about her. Livy (1.4.6-7) gives both versions, that is, of a she-wolf (lupa) suckling the twins and of Larentia having been a prostitute (lupa), thus the miraculous tale. But Livy seems to commit to the literal wolf!
