It helps me to accept the "rules" of grammar by remembering that they are determined by usage, not by God. I want to write in such a way that my reader is not distracted by confusing syntax, convoluted expressions, ambiguous agreements, misleading conjunctions, unexpected subordinations, or anything similar. If I want my reader to enjoy my insights, descriptions, characterizations, images, etc., best to convey them in clear, vivid, and compelling language. (I confess that I have a fondness for recondite vocabulary, but that's the Latinist in me.)
