I've bonked in two half Ironman races, both times on the run, first because of nutrition (didn't consume enough on the ride) and second because of heat. And yeah, I just walked it in. I wasn't injured, just physically done for the day. It's a rotten feeling, but like you, I didn't kick myself. It just wasn't my day. Those two bonks made the other races all the better!
