I've read a little about your story here on Medium, Michelle, but I didn't remember that your job-reinvention took longer than you wanted. I'm probably guilty of recency bias, too--I view you as very successful here on Medium and that's become the only story I know!

I'm sorry that you experienced that, and I'm sure it was painful. The newspaper industry changed quickly and drastically, probably faster than anyone imagined. I certainly did not see this coming for my university. (A few others point out that we had clues, and I see them in retrospect, but no administration before the current one wove those clues into a narrative hair shirt and made us wear it.)
