Thank you, Beachdance. I appreciate the encouragement, and I expect to find my way. I'm not so far from retirement that I'm panicked about it.

The university may always have been corporate, but I don't recall the same measurements and pressures and contractions from my undergraduate and graduate days, or from the first decades of my employment. I think that's simply a new application of neoliberal principles of the "market knowing best" to a field in which it doesn't apply (like healthcare, news media, etc.).

I'm glad you found a role in theatre outside the university; I'm sorry you had a leave a position you loved.
