Thank you for sharing your experience in detail; and I am sorry you have had it. I’m part of a reconciling UMC congregation with no intention of disaffiliating and I have tended to view congregations that struggle as intolerant and, frankly, not very Christian. I’m clearly blinkered in seeing the awful treatment that many honest and faithful congregations are subjected to. I will certainly see the issue in a less binary way because of your post.
