Thank you, V, and thank you originally to Alexander for modeling receptiveness. I'm an academic so it's a daily part of life to speak from one's expertise, but I'm learning all the time how it can be received in many different ways.

Outside of my expertise, though, I tend to ask more questions than offer facts or corrections. Many of us, myself included, speak authoritatively with no authority at all apart from the authority of our experience, and I don't want to question that. If I sense that the speaker or writer is open to a question or factual correction, I'll probably offer one, but those moments seem fewer now. We're living in an easily offended age.
