Thanks, brother. Why didn't you see this in advance, perhaps you ask? Because I wrote it last year, found it last weekend (as I drafted another poem), and reworked it this week. I decided I liked it enough to send it out. Last year's fall colors were spectacular, as you remember, and I recall the first line that came to me was "Admire the maple..." and the "chill...chlorophyll" rhyme. But I was also teaching the Odyssey as I usually do in intro Humanities, and I just found an idea that I wanted to work out. Ada Limón it's not, to be sure, but as I pulled it back up recently I realized that I liked it, despite its datedness (e.g. Covid). It was time to put it out there.
