Thanks for the explanation. I read this rather quickly and must have miss something, however. You've "dropped all abstractions about [your] hourly rate or percentage increases" but most of what follows is a "breakdown of...work and compensation."

If the university designated more housing for grad students, even married and families, to address the cost of living, would that meet your demands? Or if the university offered or increased a stipend for cost of living expenses? That would not require any estimation of a value for graduate research. How do you value it apart from publication in peer-reviewed journals or receiving grants?
