That's a fair point, Carrie. In many cases, it's "can't" pay, given the burdens of tuition, debt, cost of living, and the pressure that puts on students to choose a career path with an immediate and sizable paycheck.
In that paragraph I was thinking a little more about the generic interest in the ancient world that captivates TikTok and parody shows and podcasts, though. It's one thing to want your kids to listen to stories about mythology, and it's another to pay the storyteller both for their learning and for their delivery. There's a disconnection there somewhere.
