Yes! I agree completely, Ryan. I've had far more great results than poor results (running and triathlon) because I tend to perform well in competition, but there are days that are just not your day. Nutrition, heat, training, whatever, and you have an off race. I would encourage any competitive, non-professional athlete to look at their outcomes this way.
However, I think the story is different for collegiate or professional athletes and especially those who struggle regularly with injuries. In those cases results do matter, and I don't know that "failing upward" is the same kind of thing. But great piece and worth lots of conversation.
