You're the first commenter to touch on this, Bill, but I've considered the idea to write on the weird diminishing accountability in the university the higher up the ladder you go. You're right, we faculty were not responsible for the failures of recruitment or the financial crisis--previous administrators were. Now they've gone on to new positions and our current administrators have to make the faculty the "solution" to problems that we did not cause. I'm not sure how a chancellor is evaluated. As a faculty member, I'm evaluated by students in every class on a number of different factors, then I evaluate myself, then I'm evaluated by my chair and dean every year. I tend not to use the word "oligarch" of university administrators, but if the shoe fits, my friend.
